Resin Groundwork & Dropped Kerbs in Kettering – A Solid Base Under Every Drive
Groundwork & Dropped Kerbs in Kettering: sourced prices and the base explained before work starts. Free site survey with colour samples. Call for a quote.
A resin surface only looks as good as what sits underneath it. At Eco Resin Driveways, we plan the groundwork and dropped kerbs first, because that is what keeps a drive free of weeds, loose gravel and cracks. We offer a free site survey, and you can call us on 01536 580137. Most Kettering drives are 30-50 m², which works out at roughly £4,500-£11,000 for resin bound (Rutland Driveways, Resin driveways in Kettering, October 2026).
What a Resin Drive Costs Around Kettering
Published prices for Kettering vary a lot, so here are the sources side by side. Rutland Driveways puts resin bound at £150-£220 per m² all in, covering dig-out, base, edging, surface and clear-up (Rutland Driveways, October 2026). A Kettering firm lists resin or tarmac at £100-£130 per m², block paving at £80-£100 and gravel at £45-£80 (Divine Driveways Kettering, 2026). Nationally, MyJobQuote gives an average of £60-£95 per m² for resin (MyJobQuote, updated 6 October 2026).
The gaps come from what each figure includes. A low price usually means a thin base or an overlay on whatever is already there. Even for the same job, installers’ prices can differ by 20-30% in one area (MyBuilder, 2026). That is why we explain what goes under the surface before you compare quotes.
Our Specialist Services
Two jobs sit under this heading, and each has its own page.
Dropped kerbs. If your drive meets the road across a raised kerb and pavement, you need a lowered crossing before anyone parks on it. Our dropped kerbs page covers the application, the council’s rules and how the work fits around your drive.
Groundwork and drainage. This is the dig-out, sub-base, levels, edging and water run-off that decide whether a surface lasts. The groundwork and drainage page shows what we do below the surface and why.
Why Cheap Resin Fails
Resin does not cover for a weak base. If the ground moves, the surface cracks along the same lines. If water sits on it, it stains and lifts at the edges.
A properly installed resin bound drive on a sound base lasts 15-25 years (BestBuilders, updated 22 August 2026). The key words are “sound base”. If the old tarmac is firm, level and well drained, an overlay can work. If it has sunk, crumbled or been undermined by tree roots, it has to come out. A failing base that must be dug out and replaced adds £50-£80 per m² (BestBuilders, updated 22 August 2026). Edging adds £30-£60 per linear metre for block or steel (BestBuilders, updated 22 August 2026).
We tell you at the survey which route your drive needs. If an overlay would only hide a problem, we say so, even if it makes the quote bigger.
Do You Need Planning Permission or a Dropped Kerb?
You do not need planning permission for a new or replacement drive of any size if it uses permeable surfacing or drains to a lawn or border (Planning Portal, Paving your front garden, 2026). Permission is needed to lay more than 5 m² of impermeable surface in a front garden that drains to the road (Planning Portal, 2026). That is why we build the drive to let water through.
The dropped kerb is a separate matter and comes from North Northamptonshire Council. If you are crossing the pavement, the council licenses the lowered kerb and the work. We check the current fee and process with you at the survey rather than quoting a figure from memory. Many of our enquiries need this step, and it is better to apply before the resin goes down.
Ironstone, Clay and Hanwood Park
The ground around Kettering ranges from ironstone to clay, and new-build plots are often compacted subsoil under thin topsoil (Rutland Driveways, October 2026). Clay holds water and moves, so it needs a deeper, well-drained sub-base. Compacted new-build ground can look firm but drain poorly, which matters on estates like Hanwood Park.
Kettering has 26 conservation areas, including the town centre, Barton Seagrave, Burton Latimer, Geddington and Rothwell (Rutland Driveways, October 2026). If your home is in one, check any extra rules before you commit to a surface or colour.
We work across Kettering and the nearby towns of Corby, Wellingborough, Rothwell, Desborough and Burton Latimer.
How the Free Survey Works
We visit, look at your existing drive and test whether it is sound enough to build on. We also check how water will leave the surface, and whether you need a dropped kerb.
We lay colour samples against your own frontage, so you see them next to your red brick or ironstone rather than on a showroom board. Warm browns, soft golds and earthy greys tend to sit comfortably against local stone, but your own light and brickwork decide it. We also talk through UV-stable resin, which costs £5-£12 per m² extra and stops yellowing (BestBuilders, updated 22 August 2026).
You get a written breakdown of the dig-out, base, edging and surface, so you can compare it fairly with other quotes.
Timing and What to Expect
Late spring or early autumn is usually best for laying resin, because winter cold and rain can spoil the cure (MyJobQuote, updated 6 October 2026). A 60 m² drive usually takes 2-5 days (MyJobQuote, updated 6 October 2026). Resin bound is safe to walk on after 4-6 hours and ready for vehicles in 24-48 hours, depending on temperature (BestBuilders, updated 22 August 2026).
Installer teams typically charge £300-£500 per day for labour (MyJobQuote, updated 6 October 2026). That is why the groundwork matters so much: digging out properly takes longer, but it is cheaper than redoing a failed surface.
